Ernestos Perez

Dr. Ernesto Matos Perez, MD grew up in Cuba and graduated from the Havana Institute of Health Science & Medicine in 1989. He completed his Family Practice residency in Havana in 1995 and worked in the mountains of Cuba with rural populations prior to a brief practice in Havana. He then moved to Belize where he operated clinics and did hospital practice in Belmopan and Punta Gorda, often providing care in jungle settings. While there, he was appointed as faculty at the American‑owned Grace School of Medicine in Belmopan. Upon moving to the United States, he completed two years of Family Practice residency at the Rio Bravo Family Medicine Residency Program in Bakersfield, California. His experiences with socialized medicine in Cuba and his passion for free‑enterprise motivated him to seek alternatives to traditional practice. He learned about Direct Primary Care and felt this model aligned with his philosophy of personalized, affordable care. He joined Free Market Physicians in January 2019 as an Assistant Physician, where he now provides comprehensive primary care through a DPC model, emphasizing patient‑centered relationships, after‑hours access via phone, text, and email, and a focus on preventive health. Dr. Matos lives in Neosho with his wife and enjoys camping, hiking, rock climbing, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
