About

Dr. Tyler McMurry is a second‑generation rural family doctor with a long history of military service. After serving as an Infantryman with the 82nd Airborne Division, he now serves as a medical officer with the 1/299 Cavalry Squadron in Hilo. In 2020 he moved his family to Oahu to support Hawaii during the COVID‑19 pandemic, and in 2021 he relocated to Kona with his wife and four children to provide primary care to the Big Island. He enjoys freediving, spearfishing, hunting, and sailing in his spare time.

Dr. McMurry is board‑certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine. He earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, graduated in 2017 from the University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his family medicine residency with a concentration in emergency medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program in Williamsport, PA. He founded Waiola Direct Care in January 2023 to deliver Direct Primary Care, emphasizing a personal doctor‑patient relationship, transparent pricing, and comprehensive, community‑focused health services.
