Robert Bonacci

Dr. Robert Bonacci joined Trailhead Clinics Montrose in 2022, bringing his extensive experience in Direct Primary Care (DPC) to the community. He believes that DPC allows physicians to spend more time with each patient, provide personalized care, and focus on preventive health, treating the root causes of disease through nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and strong patient relationships. His philosophy emphasizes shared decision‑making and a holistic, patient‑centered approach that aligns with Trailhead Clinics' mission to deliver high‑quality, accessible primary care without the constraints of insurance paperwork.

Before embracing the DPC model, Dr. Bonacci spent over 20 years at the Mayo Clinic, where he rebuilt primary‑care practices in multiple locations and led the Family Medicine Residency program from 2010 to 2019. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, serving as chief resident. His clinical background also includes a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and mentorship of future physicians. Dr. Bonacci earned his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine after completing a BA at Kenyon College and a Physician Assistant program at Emory University.
