NICOLE HEMKES

About
Dr. Nicole Hemkes, MD is a board‑certified family medicine physician and the founder of Advocate MD, a Direct Primary Care practice in Madison, Wisconsin. Born and raised in Orlando, FL, she earned a B.S. in Biology (minor in Chemistry) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002, then attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine, graduating in 2006. She completed a family medicine residency at Wake Forest University in Winston‑Salem, NC, in 2009. Dr. Hemkes spent a decade practicing in a variety of settings—including emergency departments, inpatient hospitalist roles, and outpatient family medicine clinics—in urban environments like inner‑city Chicago and remote locations such as rural Alaska. This diverse experience shaped her patient‑centered approach and deep empathy for individuals from all walks of life.
After ten years as an employed physician, Dr. Hemkes embraced the Direct Primary Care model to prioritize time with patients, eliminate insurance‑driven barriers, and provide comprehensive, affordable care. At Advocate MD she emphasizes direct communication, same‑day appointments, and a holistic focus on preventive health, chronic disease management, and acute care, all delivered with the personal touch of a family doctor who truly knows her patients.
