He earned his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, completed a residency in Family Medicine at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida, and served four years as a Navy medical officer before settling in Darlington, Wisconsin. Since 1999 he has practiced both outpatient and inpatient family medicine at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County and its clinics, remaining a part‑time physician there until the end of 2020.
