About
Dr. Michael A. Ciampi, M.D. is a native of Portland, Maine. He graduated from Cheverus High School, earned his bachelor’s degrees from The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, and received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed both his internship and residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, and served seven years in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander before returning to Maine to take over his father’s family practice.
In April 2013, frustrated with the traditional health‑care financing system, Dr. Ciampi made the decision to opt out of all third‑party payments, including commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, and transitioned his practice to a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model. He now contracts directly with patients, offering personalized, affordable primary care with extended visit times, 24/7 access via phone, email, and text, and a focus on whole‑person health rather than episodic, fee‑for‑service care. His DPC philosophy emphasizes continuity of care, patient empowerment, and transparent pricing, aiming to provide high‑quality medical services without the constraints of insurance bureaucracy.
