About
Dr. Melissa Reed grew up as a Tar Heel in Chapel Hill, NC. She was raised bilingual by her Puerto Rican mother and spent summers living with extended family in Puerto Rico. After high school she attended Duke University, completing a biology and Spanish undergraduate program, and then earned her MD from Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Reed completed a Family Medicine residency at Duke University Health System. Since graduating, she has practiced Family Medicine in Raleigh and, after more than ten years of providing primary care, founded Reed Family Medicine as a Direct Primary Care practice. She emphasizes a relationship‑based model that allows ample time with patients, preventive health focus, and personalized care. Dr. Reed is also a mother of four and enjoys gardening, baking, running, reading, traveling, knitting, and sewing. Her clinical interests include women’s health, LGBTQ health, Latino health, family planning, dermatology, mental health, substance‑use disorders, nutrition, and integrative health.
