MELISSA BLACK

Dr. Melissa Black, MD, is the founder and sole physician of Empower Family Medicine, a Direct Primary Care practice in Decatur, GA. She believes that eliminating insurance middle‑men allows her to spend more time with each patient, offering 30‑60 minute visits, direct phone and messaging access, and a partnership model that empowers families to take charge of their health. Her practice emphasizes strong patient‑physician relationships, preventive care, and personalized treatment plans that extend beyond the clinic walls.

Dr. Black completed her family medicine residency at Atlanta Medical Center (now WellStar Atlanta Medical Center) in 2006 and pursued a geriatric medicine fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in 2007. As a mother and physician, she has a special interest in educating families about pregnancy, infant feeding, positive parenting, and healthy lifestyle habits. She also provides comprehensive geriatric care, including home visits for elders, to ensure continuity of care for patients of all ages.
