KATHERINE ABBOTT

Dr. Katherine A. Abbott, MD, decided to become a doctor at the age of four and has spent more than 25 years caring for children in the Louisville area. She earned her B.A. in biology and her medical degree from the University of Louisville, then completed both her pediatrics internship and residency at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, finishing in 1999. Over the years she practiced in private settings such as Springs Pediatrics and Louisville Area Pediatrics before joining Norton Children’s Medical Group.

Dissatisfied with the constraints of corporate medicine, Dr. Abbott opened Shining Star Pediatrics in July 2024 as a Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice. She wanted to restore autonomy, eliminate rushed appointments, and give patients direct, unlimited access via phone, text, and email. Her DPC model emphasizes personalized, relationship‑based care, unlimited well‑child and sick visits, on‑site labs and procedures, and transparent monthly fees, allowing families to focus on health without insurance‑driven barriers.
