JOHN ROTHWELL
Nurse Practitioner, Family
About
Dr. John W. Rothwell III, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, founded Island Direct Primary Care to deliver a patient‑centered, direct primary care model that emphasizes balance among physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial wellness. He believes that healthcare should be about building relationships, spending ample time with patients, and addressing the root causes of illness rather than merely treating symptoms. This philosophy drives the practice’s commitment to unlimited communication, same‑day access, and a simple, transparent fee structure without insurance hassles.
Before establishing his DPC practice, Dr. Rothwell began his healthcare career in 1989 as a flight medic in the U.S. Army, later serving in the Florida and New Hampshire National Guard. He earned his registered nursing degree at Florida State College in 1998, a Master’s and Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Central Florida, and completed his Doctor of Nursing Practice at UCF in 2018. He has worked in intensive care, oncology, cardiology, and emergency departments, and now brings that breadth of experience to serve patients of all ages at Island Direct Primary Care.
