After high school she lived in China and Brazil, earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and later pursued medicine. Her clinical interests were shaped by years as a diabetes researcher at Stroger Hospital of Cook County and as a birth doula in Chicago. International travel and work in Ghana and South Africa further inspired her to empower underserved communities through compassionate family medicine.
