Dr. Smith, born in 1948, grew up on the picturesque Lake Champlain Islands of Vermont. He graduated from Duke University in 1970, served honorably in the U.S. Navy, and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1978. He completed his internship and residency in Family Medicine at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA, finishing training in 1981. Since 1981, Dr. Smith has practiced as a board‑certified family physician in Forest, VA, where his love for the community and commitment to his patients have been the cornerstone of his career. In 2000, he founded Access Healthcare Multi‑Specialty Group with a Direct Primary Care philosophy focused on compassionate, patient‑centered care, emphasizing longer visits, same‑day access, and a strong doctor‑patient relationship.
