CAITLIN DOWNING

Dr. Caitlin M. Downing grew up in Southbury, CT and earned her bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Colorado College. She received her MD from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 2016, where she was honored with Professional Honors in Leadership and named Most Outstanding Senior Woman. Dr. Downing completed a family medicine residency at the Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in Hendersonville, NC, focusing on rural and community primary care. During medical school she directed the student‑run free clinic and participated in international volunteer work, experiences that shaped her commitment to accessible, whole‑person care.

Since joining New River Family Wellness, PLLC, Dr. Downing has embraced the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model to eliminate barriers between patients and their physician. She emphasizes near‑immediate access, transparent pricing, and comprehensive services ranging from primary and women’s health to prenatal care, hospital medicine, and mental health. Her philosophy centers on building lasting relationships within the Ashe County community, providing personalized, high‑quality care that addresses the full spectrum of health needs.
