Dr. Thomas R. White, MD, FAAFP, FNLA, is the founder and lead physician of Hometown Direct Care, a Direct Primary Care practice serving Cherryville, North Carolina. He grew up in Cherryville, earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Duke University, and completed a Family Medicine residency in Charlotte, NC. After serving on the residency faculty and practicing in Charlotte for several years, Dr. White returned to his hometown in 1988 to provide personalized, community‑focused primary care. In March 2015 he launched Hometown Direct Care to offer patients a DPC model that emphasizes longer visits, same‑day access, and a partnership‑based relationship that prioritizes prevention and whole‑person health.
Dr. White’s DPC philosophy centers on eliminating the constraints of fee‑for‑service medicine, allowing him to spend ample time with each patient, coordinate care across specialties, and address social determinants of health.
