About
Dr. Shauna L. Guthrie, MD, MPH, FAAFP, is a Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine physician who founded Sunflower Direct Primary Care (DPC) in Henderson, North Carolina. Growing up in rural Kansas and Missouri, she witnessed how lack of insurance and high costs prevent people from seeking care. This experience shaped her belief that the current healthcare system is broken and can be re‑imagined to provide affordable, high‑quality, patient‑centered care. Sunflower DPC was created to offer predictable pricing, longer visits, and a partnership model that empowers patients to take control of their health.
Dr. Guthrie earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and completed residency training in Family Medicine at the New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency, followed by a Preventive Medicine residency at Dartmouth‑Hitchcock Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency. She is board‑certified in Family Medicine and Public Health & General Preventive Medicine. In addition to her clinical practice, she serves as Chief Medical Officer for Maria Parham Health and Medical Director at Granville Vance Public Health, reflecting her commitment to community health and public‑health leadership.
