Dr. Randolph V. Merrick, MD, obtained his medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985. He completed his residency at Harrisburg Hospital in family medicine, now part of the Pennsylvania State University Health Sciences. He was first board certified in family medicine in 1988 and completed his last recertification in 2010. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Merrick teaches for the Department of Family Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University as an Assistant Clinical Professor. He is the founder and president of the Orange County Free Clinic. He has been recognized by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine with the Outstanding Teachers Award in 2011, received the Excellence Award in Clinical Practice in laser therapy in Toronto, Canada in 2011, and was honored by the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians as Family Physician of the Year (2001) and Volunteer of the Year (2010). Dr. Merrick is certified in laser therapy (photobiomodulation) and serves as treasurer on the Board of Directors of the North American Association of Photobiomodulation, lecturing nationally and internationally on its clinical applications.
