About
Born and raised in Orlando, FL. Dr. Hemkes left Florida to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with Distinction with a BS Biology minor in Chemistry in 2002. She went on to attend medical school at the University of South Florida in Tampa, graduating in 2006. Dr. Hemkes then returned to North Carolina to complete a Family Medicine residency at Wake Forest University in Winston‑Salem, NC, finishing in 2009.
For the first ten years of her practice, Dr. Hemkes gained experience in a variety of settings, including emergency departments, inpatient hospitalist roles, and traditional outpatient family medicine clinics. She has worked in urban environments such as inner‑city Chicago and in remote locations like rural Alaska, believing that this diversity has made her a more empathetic healer.
After a decade as an employed physician, Dr. Hemkes embraced the Direct Primary Care model, which she feels empowers both doctor and patient. She is committed to advocating for her patients as if they were family and believes everyone deserves a dedicated healthcare advocate. Dr. Hemkes lives in Madison, WI with her two young daughters, Margo and Mona, and enjoys running, pilates, gardening, and exploring the state with her family.
