Family Medicine

About

Dr. Gilbert, a Pitt County native, is excited to join AccessMedicine in July 2025. He graduated from Greenville Christian Academy before earning his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and his MD from ECU's Brody School of Medicine in 2010. He completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he also served as Chief Resident. After a year as faculty at U of L, he returned home to Winterville. For the past decade, Dr. Gilbert has held various roles at Brody, including course and clerkship director and Interim Associate Dean for Medical Education, all while maintaining an active clinical practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings. His growing frustration with the traditional medical system's barriers to care led him to explore the Direct Primary Care model, recognizing its benefits for patients, families, and communities. Dr. Gilbert has a special interest in promoting wellness through lifestyle choices like food and exercise, while offering a broad range of medical treatments and in‑office procedures. He and his wife, Heather, homeschool their two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, playing guitar, and is learning to garden.
