Dr. Brett Winkeler, MD, is a Family Medicine physician at Rural Family Direct Care. After medical school, he completed a residency in Family Medicine at Spartanburg Regional Hospital in Spartanburg, SC, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Winkeler joined Rural Family Medicine in 2008 and has a special interest in treating sports injuries while enjoying the care of patients of all ages.
He is passionate about the Direct Primary Care model, believing it allows physicians to focus on the patient‑physician relationship without the constraints of insurance regulations. Dr. Winkeler emphasizes longer, uninterrupted visits, personalized care plans, and direct communication with patients, aiming to provide high‑quality, compassionate care that puts the patient first. In his personal time, he lives in Smithton with his wife and two children, enjoys golfing, and volunteers as a coach for local sports teams.
