Dr. Sommerhalder is a Texas native, growing up in the North Texas suburbs of Dallas. She attended the University of Texas at Dallas, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology before embarking on the exciting journey of medical school at Ross University School of Medicine on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Dr. Sommerhalder completed her clinical training in New York City before returning south to finish her residency in Family Medicine at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. After practicing full-spectrum Family Medicine for several years, she discovered the Direct Primary Care model as a better way to provide the time, attention, and connection her patients deserve. She enjoys both teaching and learning from her patients, empowering them to take ownership of their health. Dr. Sommerhalder is a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP), with advanced training in menopause and midlife women’s health. She is passionate about helping women navigate perimenopause and beyond with evidence-based care, compassion, and practical guidance. She believes the patient-physician relationship is the cornerstone of primary care, and the opportunity to build long-lasting connections is one of her favorite parts of being a doctor. When not caring for patients, Dr. Sommerhalder enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband David, a local hematologist‑oncologist, and their three children. They’re thrilled to be back in their home state after years of travel and training and hope the Texas Hill Country will become their forever home.
