About
Dr. Althea Tyndall‑Smith's desire to practice medicine started in early childhood, profoundly influenced by her family doctor who modeled long‑lasting, trusting physician‑patient relationships. She has always been interested in empowering patients to take control of their own health and believes that teaching patients about their conditions leads to more informed decisions. During her years in the traditional model of medicine she observed a shift toward quantity over quality of care, which motivated her to seek a different approach.
In response, Dr. Tyndall‑Smith co‑founded Gainesville Direct Primary Care Physicians to create a Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice where she can spend quality time with patients and their families. The DPC model allows her to focus on personalized, comprehensive care without the constraints of insurance billing, emphasizing preventive health, patient education, and strong physician‑patient relationships.
